Trailblazing Together: Highlights from Switchback Spring 2025
Retail Control Systems had the opportunity to attend the inaugural Switchback Spring event in Nashville, TN, and we’re walking away energized by the experience. Held June 16–18 at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center, this first edition of the outdoor-focused trade show brought together 194 brands, 290 retailers, and over 1,200 total attendees—all deeply committed to shaping the future of the outdoor industry.
From the start, the event struck a thoughtful balance between inspiration and practical value. The opening day’s educational programming included a keynote from Jim Weber, former CEO of Brooks Running, and sessions packed with insights into buying behaviors, public lands policy, and trade issues. This wasn’t just another trade show; it was a place where ideas were shared and real strategies were formed.
As a partner in the outdoor retail industry, we were especially encouraged by how well the show supported independent retailers and emerging brands. The show floor buzzed with energy—Merrell and The North Face led the way as summit sponsors, while other standout exhibitors like Cotopaxi, Smartwool, and Altra kept things fresh and dynamic. It was clear that everyone—from heritage brands to young disruptors—showed up to build something lasting.
The value of in-person interaction came through loud and clear. Brands pointed out how meaningful it was to connect face-to-face with brands they previously only knew online. And from a systems and operations perspective, these connections are where innovation begins—understanding what brands and retailers need, and how we at Retail Control Systems can help them operate more efficiently and grow smarter.
“Switchback Spring really delivered on bringing the outdoor community together,” said Justin McGuire, Account Executive at Retail Control Systems. “It gave us the chance to hear firsthand what retailers and brands are experiencing—from their point-of-sale challenges to growth plans—and those insights help us tailor smarter retail solutions that support long-term success.”
Even after the day’s sessions wrapped, the conversations continued. Whether during the lively happy hours or informal meetups, the vibe stayed collaborative and optimistic.
Looking ahead, we’re thrilled to follow the show as it grows. Switchback Spring 2026 is headed to New Orleans, a move we believe will bring even more opportunity, flexibility, and fun to an already promising event. With over 800 nearby eateries, access to the outdoors, and convenient travel options, it’s the kind of venue that reflects the inclusive, adventurous spirit of this community.
Switchback may still be in its early stages, but if Nashville was any indication, it’s on track to become a cornerstone event for the outdoor retail world—and we’re proud to be a part of it.
